On motivating 2023 Bar takers | DUTERTE: ‘I’ll pray for you’

Tensions and pressure are rising as the 2023 Bar Examinations draws near. What could be the most efficient way in easing the Bar takers tense?

Nothing more than hearing uplifting words from a man whose Wisdom is crafted through time.

During Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy’s The President’s Hour and Send Off Rites for the 2023 Bar Candidates of the JMCFI-College of Law. An unexpected guest grabbed the attention of the Barristers and took the stage. And it’s no less than the Former President of the Republic of the Philippines Rodrigo Roa Duterte. He was also a prominent lawyer and a prosecutor before entering politics.

Mayor Digong had a quality time and heart-to-heart conversation with 38 JMCFI College of Law barristers, and emphasized some major points to win that rigorous and mind-boggling probe.

“You know there’s really no secret in becoming a lawyer. Meaning studying and eventually passing the bar. There is no magic formula, there’s nothing but ‘Sacrifice’ study, study and study. If you ask me memorized, memorized and memorized. During the Bar Month don’t go to the basics. Listen to the review classes, be punctual, don’t be absent. It’s important. When it’s Bar month you must schedule. Listen to the reviewers and the books just follow it. That’s all I can share with you ‘hardwork’ and ‘prayer’, Duterte said.

“I’m sure that you will pass, and I know that you will pass. I’m very positive you can do it… I’ll pray for you,” he added.

Moreover, FPRRD and PACQ are rooting with these future lawyers to be an active citizen of the Philippines, a beacon of light to those who are oppressed and somehow be a major contributor to Nation Building.

Atty. Israelito Torreon, Dean of JMCFI College of Law  also expressed His overwhelmed reaction over that occasion.

“Alhamdulillah! This is perhaps the best President’s Hour for JMC Law ever! This is the third year that JMC Law holds a send-off ceremony for its bar candidates but this is perhaps the best one ever. We were informed only 2 days ago that Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy wants to be personally present in the yearly send-off ceremony, hence, we immediately harked upon all members of the JMC Law Community to be present for the special occasion. Little did we know that it is going to be a literal “PRESIDENT’S HOUR” as our bar candidates are not only energized and motivated by the amazing speech of Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy but we were stunned that Former President Rodrigo “Mayor Digong” Duterte would also be part of the  program,” he exclaimed on his Facebook post.

JMCFI College of Law consistently writes on the Annals of History with their previous records. For its first Bar exams in 2020-2021, it got a 100 percent passing rate for the first-time takers, and ranked number 1 out of 61 Law Schools in the Philippines for schools with 11-50 candidates for first time takers; number 4 out of 25 Law Schools in the Philippines for having Exemplary Performance for schools with 11-50 candidates—making it two-fold pressure for this batch.

Solon Revilla-sponsored bill lowering optional retirement age of gov’t workers to 56 reaches plenary

The bill seeking to give government workers the option to retire at age 56 has reached the Senate plenary.

If you are a government worker who will be turning 56 sooner, you will be among those who will enjoy the optional early retirement once the bill gets passed or lapses into law.

Senator Ramon ‘Bong’ Revilla Jr. on Wednesday sponsored Senate Bill No. 2444 under Committee Report No. 134 to lower the optional retirement age for state employees from 60 to 56 years old.

The bill will amend Section 13-A of Republic Act 8291 or the Government Service Insurance System Act of 1997. In his sponsorship speech, Senator Revilla said the bill is in response to the clamor of civil servants and teachers who wish to enjoy their retirement days and benefits “at a much earlier time.”

“Huwag ipagkait sa ilan na maranasan ang benepisyo ng retirement life sa mas maagang panahon ano man ang kanilang dahilan dito ay marapat lang na galangin ito at pagbigyan,” he persuaded.

“Ika nga, let them enjoy their pension while they are able to enjoy it,” he added.

COMETS administers blood typing activity; exemplifies contribution, advancement to healthcare

DAVAO CITY — As the week for Medical Technologists started, the Coalesced Organization of Medical Technologists (COMETS) once again made its way to promote their work by showing their dedication and highlighting their skills by extending services to the school through the ABO Blood Typing Activity.

What better way to start the event than to showcase skills and provide services that will exhibit the importance of Medical Technology?

The COMETS invited JMarian students and employees to take part in their activity which provides individuals with information about what type of blood they have with only a prick of a finger. Their blood types are determined by the blood typing procedure, which also reveals intriguing inheritance patterns and the concept of the appropriate types of blood suitable for an individual.

The activity took place in the JMCFI Radiologic Technology Laboratory on September 19, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

The activity was initiated by the Program Head of the College of Allied Health Sciences Education, Ms. Queen Jane M. Bacon, RMT, MSMT, and made possible with the help of the COMETS officers and their coordinator, Ms. Alexis Joy Davila, RMT. In charge of the event are the Registered Medical Technologists, and the professors of the Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science, Mr. Rigidor S. Padayhag, RMT, and Mr. Tom Anthony Tonguia, RMT.

“The purpose of this activity is to make people aware of their own blood types. The Philippines, being a developing country, numerous citizens are really not that enlightened in terms of obtaining medical information and do not know their own blood type, that is why this activity is held free”, Adrian Ray Gonzales, COMETS’ Vice President, stated.

This activity has given way for students and employees in the school to determine their blood types, especially those who are incapable of knowing their own blood type.

By signing a form, interested students and employees would have to stand in line to have their blood checked by having their fingers pricked, a procedure more commonly known as Capillary Blood Sampling, which only needs a tiny amount of blood from the patient.

“While it really is painful having your middle finger be pricked with a needle, it really helped me clear up the misconceptions I had. I actually thought that I was O positive, but it turns out that I’m actually B positive. So it really is helpful in clearing up any misunderstanding”, Shaena Mae Estolas, a participant, expressed.

“I have always been curious about my blood type. I’ve never been to any hospital and have also never checked my blood type. It really is an effective and helpful activity, especially for those who are unable to know their own blood types. So I am really glad that they decided to make this activity free of charge, it gives opportunities to people like me to be aware of the type of blood that one has”, Joanna Marie Ladeza, a participant, said.

“It’s really interesting to know what your blood type is. I actually have an idea of what type of blood I have but it’s not medically confirmed, so I’m really grateful that they had this. Not only is it cool being pricked, but it is also very informative”, Rodelyn May Escovidal, a participant, shared.

147 participants joined in the activity and had their own blood checked. Despite having fear of needles, the participants left the event with amazement and a sense of triumph as they exited the room knowing their blood types.

The MedTech week, which started on Monday, September 18, 2023, was designed to celebrate the advancement and contribution of Medical Technology in the area of healthcare.

The JMarian inducts new editorial board for A.Y. 2023-2024

That is how Mr. Lord Vincent Van Mendoza, the adviser of JMCFI’s college student publication (The JMarian), described his feelings about the grueling screening process of the campus publication.

Following the exhaustive screening process—testing journalism knowledge, taking the pen-and-paper test, and acing the face-to-face interview—JMarian finally installs new members of the editorial board who will be serving the publication for the academic year 2023-2024.

In the final screening process, Mr. Mendoza shortlisted 7 applicants whom he thought would be most fit for the EIC role. I was stuck with underestimating and overestimating my capacity, but in the end, when you have an excellent advisor to guide you, you will surely find a position that will fit you. To say that I am happy is an understatement. I am elated, in bliss, you name it. Above that, I also feel humbled to be given this responsibility and to serve the JMarians by delivering not just truthful contents but also ones worth reading“, Dameille expressed.
