Aiming to further enhance the experiences of Medical Technology (MedTech) students, the Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) Program conducted the first Academe-Industry Linkage Series 1: Basics in Phlebotomy at Jose Maria College Foundation Inc. (JMCFI) last May 11, 2023. Spearheaded by the Program Head Queen Jane M.  Bacon, RMT, MSMT, the said activity was successfully conducted, with its goal to boost the knowledge of first-year students through the assistance of the following invited speakers: Ms. Kristelle Irene Mae Blanco, RMT from Zafire Distributors, Inc. and Ms. Kate Ganaban-Talip, RMT, the Chief Medical technologist of Lanang Premier Hospital.

“To say that the experience was memorable is an understatement. The activity did not only refresh our minds about the basics of phlebotomy, but it also helped us configure a new perspective regarding how these basics skills, when practiced to mastery, elevate our understanding of concepts that are essential in becoming skilled phlebotomists,” Cormen Jophiel Corseles, a first-year BSMT student expressed.

In addition, the speakers exhibited their skills in demonstrating the right way of phlebotomy using the advanced venipuncture dummy arm that provides complete venous access for IV therapy and phlebotomy, plus sites for intramuscular and intradermal injections.

Moreover, the first-year MedTech students shared their insights and highlighted that they are looking forward to another program like this next year in order to gain more understanding of the medical field.

“I am eagerly anticipating future events like this one as they inspire a deep passion for our chosen field of study and provide valuable knowledge that goes beyond what textbooks teach us. Listening to real-life situations fills us with excitement and motivates us to strive for success in our endeavors,” Adrian Ray Gonzales, a first-year BSMT student stated.
