COM in search for Bruno in ‘Menchanted’ fete week

“It was 5 years ago when we are [sic] just having discussions as to what uniform will be used in the College of Medicine, and now we are gathered here to celebrate this Medicine Week 2023,” Dr. Jed Enumerables, the Associated Dean of the College of Medicine of Jose Maria College Foundation Inc., recounted as he officially declared the opening of the Medicine Week 2023 themed “Medchanted : a magical world to remember”.

The program started with an opening prayer led by Marian O. Baligia, the Executive Auditor of the SIGMA Council. It was followed by the singing of the National Anthem and JMC Hymn.

An opening remarks by Andro S. Larong, the President of the SIGMA Council highlighted “the tough 4 months since we started this medicine school journey for A.Y. 2022 – 2023, but despite those challenges, we still manage to overcome and endure those hardships, and with that, we can finally have the chance to destress, enjoy and build camaraderie and friendship among JMC medical community”. This was then followed by the official declaration of Medicine Week 2023 by Dr. Enumerables.

Various events were prepared by the SIGMA Council, which started with a cheering competition in which each of the houses—House of Mirabel, House of Luisa and House of Isabel showcased their creativity and talents. What came after was the Amazing Race in which medical students were grouped accordingly to search and fight for each quest in order to find Bruno (Mirabel’s ostracized uncle who has the ability to see the future in the Encanto movie). There were 11 stations to search for quests and at every station, two teams will compete to complete their quest.

In the afternoon, the sports fest was officially opened with the first game for basketball (women’s category) and volleyball (mixed category) played between House of Luisa and House of Isabela, followed by succeeding games between the three Houses. Lastly, an eSports tournament played by six teams was held at the Theatre B, JMCFI building.

The event ended with fun and full of excitement for the succeeding days of this Medicine Week 2023 celebration.

“Everything was done with a heart, making the students realize that medical school is not just all about academic trainings; it’s also building a family with your fellow medical students,” Princess Yu, a junior clerk, realized after the first day of the three-day Medicine Week Celebration.

JMCFI College of Medicine sends off 50 incoming medical clerks for practical training

DAVAO CITY—The medical students of JMCFI College of Medicine will soon be deployed to renowned institutions, namely the Southern Philippines Medical Center in Davao City and Davao Regional Medical Center in Brgy. Apokon, Tagum City, Davao del Norte, while some will participate in community immersion initiatives in Barangay Salumay, Marilog District.

This historic send-off ceremony conducted by JMCFI College of Medicine marks a significant milestone for both the College and the fifty medical clerks. As they embark on their practical training, they are entrusted with the responsibility of becoming skilled and compassionate physicians, driven by a deep commitment to service and nation-building.

The medical clerkship, known as a clinical clerkship or clinical rotation, stands as a vital pillar in the education of future doctors. Typically undertaken during the advanced stages of medical school, this hands-on experience equips students with the necessary skills across various medical specialties.

Throughout the clerkship, students will work alongside licensed physicians, including attending physicians, residents, and fellows, actively participating in patient care under their expert guidance. This immersive learning experience enables students to translate their theoretical knowledge into practical application, fostering their professional growth and instilling a profound sense of compassion.

Addressing the medical clerks, Dr. Nestor A. Arce, the Dean of the College of Medicine, imparted his heartfelt advice. He emphasized the significance of their role as physicians with compassionate hearts, dedicated to serving their fellowmen and contributing to the betterment of our nation.

Dr. Arce encouraged the clerks to uphold the institution’s vision and mission, rooted in values of integrity, respect, and justice. He reassured them that comprehensive knowledge is not expected from the onset and emphasized the supportive nature of their mentors and colleagues. The Dean also urged the clerks to voice any concerns about patients or themselves and seize every opportunity as a learning experience, as the field of medicine is constantly evolving, offering endless possibilities for growth.

The JMCFI College of Medicine stands as one of the flagship programs envisioned by Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy in his endearing commitment to improving the health of the impoverished and marginalized sectors of society. This inaugural send-off ceremony, with fifty medical clerks, marks the realization of his dream that accessible healthcare services will one day be within reach for his fellow countrymen.

JMCFI College of Medicine kicks off face-to-face instruction

DAVAO CITY, PHILIPPINES—On March 4, 2022, JMCFI College of Medicine resumes its on-campus classes almost after two years since moving to learning online. First-year students were first on site for their Anatomy Laboratory class.

The session started with a Blessing and Appreciation Ceremony for the cadavers who are serving as silent mentors for the students. Smiles permeated the atmosphere as the medical students get acquainted personally with their classmates with whom they had only been interacting virtually.

Excitement filled the air as the students used their own scalpels and made their first cut. As the world begins to heal from the pandemic, JMCFI COM is also rapidly re-adjusting and adapting to the new landscape of medical education.

Following this story, Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Chairman Prospero De Vera paid official visit to Jose Maria College Foundation, Inc. on October 14, 2021. This was also the day JMCFI College of Medicine was acknowledged as a role model higher education institution of CHED in preparation of limited face-to-face classes. On the same occasion, a courtesy meet was also made for  Rev. Dr. Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy, the founding president of the said institution.

The JMC College of Medicine ensures that in addition to the state-of-the-art facilities for students, it has also met the Department of Health (DOH) requirements and health and safety protocols.
